This page collects the original research Juicy Designs publishes on the South African digital marketing market. Every study is built on first-party data: campaign records from accounts we manage, or structured surveys we run ourselves. Nothing here is recycled from international reports, and every figure can be traced back to a stated sample and a described method.

We publish original research and first-party data on the South African digital marketing landscape. More studies are added as we run them.

Why we publish original research

In our experience, most of the benchmark figures quoted to South African businesses come from American or European studies. Click costs, conversion rates and budget norms from those markets do not translate cleanly to a market with different competition levels, different buying power and a different search landscape. Local numbers are the data we kept wishing existed when advising clients, so we started publishing our own.

Juicy Designs has run digital marketing for South African businesses from Pretoria since 2015. Working across 64+ client accounts gives us something most commentary lacks: real spend, click and conversion data from this market. The research programme puts that data on the record, in the open, where any business owner, marketer or journalist can use it, whether they ever work with us or not.

Our methodology standards

Every study we publish follows the same rules:

  • The data source is stated. First-party campaign data is described as such, with the size of the sample. Survey research states how respondents were gathered and how many took part.
  • The methodology is published with the findings. On the same page, not available on request. If you cannot see how we arrived at a number, you should not trust the number.
  • We report what the data shows. That includes results that are inconvenient for agencies, ours included.
  • Measurement and opinion are kept separate. Where we interpret a figure, the interpretation is labelled as ours.

The people behind the data matter as much as the process. Cobus van der Westhuizen, co-founder and CEO, is Google Ads certified with more than 15 years in digital marketing, and leads the paid-search work behind our campaign benchmark data. Wynand van der Westhuizen, co-founder and Creative Director, is a Meta Business Partner. Each study follows the editorial structure we use across the site: one founder authors it, the other reviews it, and Lenata Oosthuizen fact-checks every claim against the underlying data before anything goes live. The full process is documented in our editorial policy.

Citing this research

You are welcome to cite, quote or reference figures from any study on this page. We ask two things. Link to the study itself as the source, so your readers can inspect the sample and method behind the number. And keep the year attached to any figure you quote, because these are point-in-time measurements of a market that changes quickly.

Journalists, researchers and marketers who need clarification on a figure can email info@juicydesigns.co.za. Because the agency is founder-led, questions about the data are answered by the people who collected it, not a press office.
