The benchmark
We are collecting anonymised results from the free AI Search Readiness Audit.
The first benchmark publishes once we have a meaningful sample. Check back soon, or run the audit on your own site now.
How we collect this
The benchmark aggregates anonymised results from the free AI Search Readiness Audit. Every time someone audits a public URL, the overall score and the five category scores are recorded without storing the page content. We never publish individual sites, only the averages across the whole sample.
Each audit uses the exact method in our guide to how we measure AI search readiness: five equally-weighted categories, each check scored pass, partly or fail. That means every number here is comparable and reproducible, and you can run the same audit on your own site to see where you sit.
What the numbers mean
The averages tell you where the typical South African site is strong and where it is weak for AI search. In our experience the biggest gaps are usually off the back of two things: missing or inconsistent structured data, and thin authority signals such as no named author or weak off-site mentions. Technical access and basic on-page SEO tend to score higher because they overlap with classic SEO that agencies already work on.
Use the category averages as a checklist. If your own audit beats the benchmark in one area but lags in another, prioritise the lagging category first, since that is where AI engines are most likely to skip you. For the full method behind each category, see schema markup for AEO and AI SEO, AEO and GEO explained.
How South African businesses can improve
Whatever the benchmark says, the path up is the same: make the page reachable, readable, trustworthy and easy to extract. Practical next steps:
- Run the free AI Search Readiness Audit on your key pages and fix the fails first.
- Generate clean structured data with the schema markup generator.
- Check classic on-page health with the SEO audit.
- For off-site authority and a full plan, our AI SEO and GEO services turn the score into measurable work.
Frequently asked questions
How is this AI search readiness benchmark measured?
It aggregates anonymised results from the free Juicy Designs AI Search Readiness Audit, which scores each page across five equally-weighted categories using the method published in our guide. We report the average overall score, the average per category, and the spread across readiness bands.
Is the data real or estimated?
Real. The benchmark only publishes figures once we have a meaningful sample of at least 25 audited sites. Until then it shows a collecting-data state rather than estimated numbers, so nothing here is fabricated.
Can I see how my own site compares?
Yes. Run the free AI Search Readiness Audit on your URL to get your own score across the same five categories, then compare it to the averages on this page.
How often does the benchmark update?
It updates whenever we refresh the underlying dataset. Each figure shows the sample size and the date it was last updated so you can judge how current it is.
