UX Design

UX Design Services in South Africa

User experience design that turns confusion into conversions. User research, journey mapping, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and usability testing for websites, web apps, and mobile apps. UX design from R25,000 per project.

Juicy Designs is a South African UX design studio that shapes how websites, web apps, and mobile apps work and are structured, grounded in user research and conversion strategy. UX (user experience) design is the discipline of making a product intuitive: user research and interviews, personas, user journey mapping, information architecture, user flows, wireframing, low and mid fidelity prototyping, usability testing, and accessibility. It is distinct from UI design, which is the visual interface layer of how a product looks. Our UX process removes the confusion that quietly loses conversions, then hands your developers a validated structure to build from.

UX design starts from R25,000 per project and scales with the number of flows and the depth of research required. For the visual interface layer, see our UI design service; for both delivered together, our UI and UX design service; and when you are ready to build, our web design team. Founded in 2015, Juicy Designs holds a 4.9 star Google rating across 214 reviews and has designed for 64 plus clients. Every engagement is founder-led, follows WCAG accessibility standards, and is priced transparently with no long-term contract.

Everything we cover in UX

Six UX services. One connected process

From a single user flow to a full product experience, researched, structured, prototyped, and tested with real people.

UX Research & User Interviews

We start by understanding who your users are and what they are trying to do. User interviews, analytics review, heatmap analysis, and competitor benchmarking surface the real friction points, which we distil into personas. This evidence base means every UX decision that follows is justified, not subjective. Research is included in every UX project from R25,000.

Journey Mapping & User Flows

We map the full journey a user takes, from first touch to completed goal, and design the user flows that get them there with the fewest dead ends. Journey mapping exposes the moments where people hesitate or drop off, so we can design those moments deliberately. The result is a path through your product that feels obvious rather than effortful.

Information Architecture

How content and features are organised determines whether users find what they need. We structure navigation, page hierarchies, and labelling so the product makes sense at a glance, validated with card sorting and tree testing where it counts. Strong information architecture is the difference between a product people explore and one they abandon.

Wireframing & Prototyping

Before any visual design, we build low and mid fidelity wireframes and an interactive prototype in Figma. You click through the actual experience and we test it with real users, catching problems while they are cheap to fix. Prototyping turns abstract ideas into something you can validate before committing engineering budget. Available standalone or bundled.

Usability Testing

UX is never finished on the first attempt. We run moderated and unmoderated usability tests on prototypes and live products, measuring how real users behave and iterating to improve task completion. Testing replaces subjective debate with observed evidence and compounds over time, turning a confusing experience into one people move through without thinking.

Learn more

Accessibility & UX Audits

We audit existing products against WCAG accessibility standards and against conversion best practice, then hand you a prioritised list of fixes. A conversion-focused UX audit finds where structure, flow, or clarity is quietly costing you sign-ups, and shows exactly what to change. Ideal when you already have a live product and need to know why it underperforms.

How we work

Research-led, transparent, conversion-focused

Here is what a UX design engagement with Juicy Designs looks like from first brief to validated handover.

  1. Research & Discover

User interviews, analytics review, competitor benchmarking, and a usability audit of your current experience. We surface the real problems and build personas before proposing any solution.

    Week 1-2
  2. Map & Structure

User journey mapping, information architecture, and user flows. We agree how the product is organised and how people move through it before any layout is drawn.

    Week 2-3
  3. Wireframe & Prototype

Low and mid fidelity wireframes built into an interactive Figma prototype. The structure and flow become something you can click through and react to.

    Week 3-4
  4. Test & Validate

Usability testing with real users on the prototype. We validate the experience, fix what trips people up, and check it against WCAG accessibility standards.

    Week 4-5
  5. Hand Over & Optimise

Documented flows, wireframes, and a tested prototype handed to your team or ours to build. Once live, we run further usability testing to keep improving task completion.

What makes us different

Why South African businesses choose Juicy Designs for UX

UX that is researched, tested with real users, and built to convert. No assumptions, no structure for its own sake.

R25k Project starting point

100% WCAG AA standard
4.9 Google rating

Research before wireframes

We design UX from evidence, not assumptions. User interviews, analytics, journey mapping, and usability testing shape every decision, so the structure solves real problems your users actually have. A flow that ignores behaviour feels logical to the team and confuses everyone else. Ours is validated by how people behave before a single line of production code is written.

Evidence-led

Founder-led, conversion-focused

Founders Cobus and Wynand lead UX direction personally. As a full marketing agency, we structure experiences with conversion in mind, not just tidy diagrams, because we are the ones who measure the results afterwards. Juicy Designs is a Google Partner, founded in Pretoria in 2015, rated 4.9 stars across 214 reviews, with no long-term contracts.

Founder-led

Accessible by default

Every experience we structure meets WCAG AA standards: logical reading order, keyboard-navigable flows, clear focus states, and screen-reader-friendly information architecture. Accessible UX reaches more users and protects you legally, and it simply makes better products. We document the flows and structure so your developers build exactly what you signed off.

Frequently asked questions

Got questions?

Straight answers about UX design. No jargon, no runaround.

What is UX design and why does it matter?

UX (user experience) design is the discipline of shaping how a product works and is structured so people can complete their goals easily. It covers user research and interviews, personas, journey mapping, information architecture, user flows, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

It matters because most conversions are lost to confusion, not to a lack of features. A clear structure and a logical flow remove friction, so more visitors finish what they came to do. At Juicy Designs we design UX from evidence, so the experience solves the real problems your users have rather than the ones your team assumes they have.

What is the difference between UX and UI design?

UX is how a product works and is structured: the research, journey mapping, information architecture, user flows, and wireframes that make it intuitive. UI is how it looks: the layout, typography, colour, iconography, and interaction detail that make it feel polished.

They are separate disciplines that depend on each other. This page covers the UX layer. For the visual interface layer, see our UI design page, and for both delivered together, see our combined UI and UX design page.

Do you run usability testing with real users?

Yes. Usability testing is core to our UX process. We test wireframes and interactive prototypes with real users before any expensive development begins, and we run moderated and unmoderated usability testing on live products after launch.

Testing catches problems while they are cheap to fix and replaces subjective debate with observed behaviour. The result is a structure and flow that are validated by how people actually use the product, not by internal opinion.

What UX deliverables do I get?

You get the research and structural artefacts that a build can be based on: a research summary with interview findings, personas, a user journey map, an information architecture and sitemap, annotated user flows, low and mid fidelity wireframes, a clickable prototype, and a usability test report with prioritised recommendations.

Where accessibility is in scope, you also get a WCAG review. Everything is delivered in Figma so your team and your developers can work from it directly, and you own the files. When you are ready to build, our web design and website development teams can take it through to a live product.

How much does UX design cost in South Africa?

UX design at Juicy Designs starts from R25,000 per project for a single-flow scope, and larger product engagements with deeper research and prototyping start from R65,000. These bands are market reference points, not a fixed personalised quote.

Once we understand your screens, the depth of research required, and whether accessibility and testing are in scope, we send a written proposal within four working hours. There are no long-term contracts. Request a quote to get started.

Do you design UX for mobile apps and web apps?

Yes. We design UX for websites, web apps, and mobile apps. The research, journey mapping, information architecture, user flows, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing are the same core disciplines across all three, adapted to each platform's patterns and constraints.

For mobile apps we account for touch targets, gestures, and native navigation conventions. For web apps we focus on complex flows, states, and data-dense screens. When you are ready to build, our web design and development teams can take the UX through to a live product.

Client results

Real UX results from South African clients

Businesses that turned a confusing product into one users understand instantly.

Checkout conversion up 41% after UX redesign
“Our checkout was leaking customers and we could not work out why. Juicy Designs ran the research, found three friction points we had never noticed, and redesigned the flow. Conversion went up 41% in the first month. They design with the numbers in mind, which is exactly what we needed.”
Onboarding drop-off cut by a third after IA rework
“New users kept getting lost in our onboarding. Juicy Designs mapped the journey, restructured the information architecture, and tested the new flow with real people before we built anything. Drop-off fell by roughly a third and support tickets about setup dried up. They fixed the structure, not just the surface.”
App store rating climbed to 4.8 after UX rework
“Users found our app confusing and the reviews showed it. Juicy Designs reworked the flows and navigation, tested the prototype with real users first, and fixed the moments where people got stuck. Our store rating climbed to 4.8 and support tickets about navigation basically disappeared.”
